Sitting on the train, heading off to Chisinau in Moldova. It's 14hrs, so I can write a bit.
I liked Bucharest, but as a place to live, not to visit.
The restaurants are cheap and brilliant... Last night I had octopus carpaccio followed bu surf and turf, involving one of the best steaks I've ever had.... And then an incredible double biscuit layered cheesecake.... 20 quid including beers.
The parks are better than ours... They are buzzing with people until well after dark, are apparently safe, and the interesting... Mini golf, boating lakes, well manicured lawns and flower beds.
The houses are massive and can be beautiful.
But... As a tourist there isn't much to do. 2 days would have been enough... 3 was overkill. We weren't pushing ourselves to visit sites, as we literally couldn't find many.
The supposed highlight was unfortunately the highlight...the peoples parliament building, which is the 2nd biggest building only to the pentagon. It was a 2hour tour that took in conference rooms, the caged in roof terrace, and the basement complete with maintenance ducts and dripping pipes.
About 40pc was interesting.
But roll on Moldova (literally)
Chris
